Upcoming Seminars
Please note- Mark Davies is one of the UK's foremost experts of Edged Weapons arts, & heir application in combat! It is this knowledge along with his experience as a door supervisor where he faced knife attacks many times, that allows him to speak with authority speaking to youths about the dangers of carrying a knife for all the wrong reasons. Having seen first hand the effects of armed combat Mark is active in educating children about the reality of carrying knives.
Mark does not condone the carrying of illegal weapons, or of commiting illegal acts. We teach people nationwide how to defend themselves against that sort of person! Our bladearts, like Japanese Sword Arts- are for historical interest, attribute training & conceptualisation for unarmed martial arts. Knowledge is power!
Asian Blade Concepts (Please note date change)
@ Tactical Edge HQ, 6 Guthrie Port, Arbroath. Sunday 14th Sept 2008. Call 01241 876391 or email Mark on mark@blackbeltacademies.com
TO ATTEND THIS SEMINAR YOU MUST BE A LICENCED MARTIAL ARTS PRACTITIONER, & BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A CURRENT VALID MARTIAL ARTS LICENCE.
Even if you're a martial artist who doesn't train in historical bladearts like Kali, Escrima, Arnis, Silat, western fencing or western historical sword re-enactment; this seminar will be picking the most useful attribute building drills from the Asian blade systems, & then applying the movements & concepts contained within them in unarmed self defence, & self defense using surprising improvised tools such as a rolled up magazine, walking cane or even a ballpoint pen.
This seminar will be a fascinating exploration of some old historical martial systems. The drills found in these old systems will turbocharge your unarmed skills against the knife.
WE DO NOT CONDONE THE CARRYING OF KNIVES FOR THE WRONG REASONS, & WE DO NOT ADVOCATE ILLEGAL ACTS. Almost everything we do with blade has an unarmed version too, so it will enhance your knife defence, & weapons drills seriously enhance your control & co-ordination in unarmed martial arts like NOTHING ELSE!
All martial artists are welcome, so call or email us & book a space. Pre booking is a must as Drawpoint was FULL.
Applied Self Defence for TaeKwon-Do
Vision TKD Summer Camp- Crowborough, August 23rd 2008. Call Mr Phillip Lear- info@visiontkd.co.uk
We've been kindly invited by Mr Phillip Lear to teach TaeKwon-Do Hoshinsul at the Vision TaeKwon-Do summer camp this year. We'll be introducing the students to different ways of applying techiques that they already know in realistic scenario's, & looking at the difference between competition training & self defence training. We'll look at adding some new techniques to the students arsenal's by adding in some dynamic takedowns & dirty tricks.
We'll be looking at weapons defence, & implimenting some very simple & effective counter knife & counter impact weapon skills.
Tactical Edge Unarmed Close Quarter Self Defence
@ Energy Gym, 6 Edinburgh. Sat 6th September 08. Contact Marcus Houston on 01383 722219 or email enquiries@kravmagaedinburgh.com
On the last seminar we looked at some slightly different techniques drawn from Silat. This time we go back to the core techniques of Tactical Edge. It'll be hard & fast training emphasising fast entries, limb destructions, good striking techniques & hard takedowns. We'll be spending some time drilling the pads, & we'll look at some use of leg technique this time too. This is a great chance to go over your core fundamentals with the founder of Tactical Edge.
We are available for seminars to any interested Martial Arts groups, regardless of National Governing Body or style.
We have a wide selection of Tactical Edge & ComTech seminars available covering all aspects of unarmed self defence, South East Asian stickwork & Historical blade arts.
Tactical Edge Applied Self Defence
This seminar covers applied self defence techniques against the most common forms of attack used by chavs & neds today.
Tactical Edge 'Unarmed & Dangerous'
This seminar is dedicated to unarmed defence against armed attackers. We'll take you through defences against knife, baton & firearm.
ComTech Asian Blade Concepts
This seminar takes you through some of the old historic South East Asian martial arts. We look at the methods used by the old Moro warriors, & how the drills found within Pekiti Tirsia, Kali & Silat can turbocharge your unarmed training & unarmed knife defence skills. NOTE- WE DO NOT CONDONE THE CARRYING OF KNIVES ILLEGALLY, OR OF ILLEGAL ACTS!
ComTech Historical Bowie
This is a fascinating historical seminar looking at the Bowie knife as used during the 18th Century in the old west. Anyone interested in Historical Sword Re-enactments or fencing wil love this seminar, as the Bowie system is based heavily on old Sabre fencing. We look at movements such as the 'in Quartata' & 'Passata Soto', & the twelve count defensive, attack & back cut drills. Historically the Bowie was renowned for its 'deadly back-cut', we'll look at how the back-cut was used historically & the fencing drills that go wth it. Bowie Sparring is a competative sport in the USA & is great fun & similar to western fencing; everyone on the course gets to spar with everyone else using safe foam dummy Bowies.
You aren't in the old west & can't carry a 14" Bowie on your hip in the UK (& if you do you'll not be training with me as you'll be in jail) but many of the concepts found within Bowie training can be applied with improvised defensive tools such as a humble walking cane (the 'In Quartata' on its own could make your average pensioner with a cane quite a shock to your average chav) or a rolled up newspaper or magazine. This seminar is a fascinating exploration of our own western martial heritage, along the same line as historical fencing etc.
ComTech Bandanna & improvised self defence tools
This course will teach you how to use the humble bandanna (or scarf, belt, tie etc) to defend yourself against common attacks used by thugs & criminals. The ComTech bandanna system developed by James Keating is a fascinating system that allows you to use a completely harmless & legal piece of clothing as a last ditch defence against many attacks.
We'll look at how ComTech conceptualisation can allow you to take almost any everyday impliment & use it to defend yourself against common unarmed attacks; & more importantly to ain a small advantage if forced to defend against a knife weilding atacker.
