So what is Tactical Edge?
Mark Davies first started the forerunner to Tactical Edge back in 1988. Since then it evolved constantly, with Tactical Edge being founded in 1991.
The civilian version of Tactical Edge explores self protection at all ranges of combat. We look at how attacks REALLY occur & how we can take preventative methods, & how we can defeat these scenarios. Tactical Edge's combatives consist of:
Unarmed Combatives- Striking Techniques (strikes, punches, kicks, limb destructions, blocks parries & evasions) Takedown Techniques, Locking & Joint Breaking, Use of the Environment.
Weapons Defence- Counter Edged Weapons, Counter Impact Weapons, Counter Firearms.
Skill at Arms- Edged Weapons (folding knife skills, fixed blade skills, double edged knives, front grip techniques, reverse grip techniques, 'pakal', karambit, large knife methods) Impact Weapons (baton techniques, short stick techniques, use of the stinger, use of the impact karambit) , Flexible Weapons (bandanna, v-gar, ligature techniques), Improvised Weapons (used of everyday items as edged, impact or flexible weapons), Basic Tactical Firearms (pistolcraft, force on force training) .
Defensive Mental Conditioning- Adrenal Stress Conditioning, Fear Control, Tactics, The Law & Self Defence.

What do we do in class?
In class you'll work on your striking techniques using various types of pads & punchbags to develop them into effective & powerful weapons. You'll work with a partner to develop your takedowns, locks & throws, limb destructions etc.
You'll develop your skills working your way through various skill building partner based drills. We use scenario based drills to teach you how to solve different types of attacks. You'll start off working on set piece routines to imprint good reactions & to teach the correct application of techniques & tactics, but eventually you'll 'freelance' your way through scenario drills using your own choice of techniques & tactics.
A major part of what we do in Tactical Edge is all thanks to Master at Arms James A Keatings methods & concepts. The Combat Technologies training methods are some of the most advanced in the world & we are proud to teach them. Mark Davies is the European Representative for James Keating & ComTech.
We emphasise counter weapons skills as the majority of criminals these days carry some form of weapon & are quite willing to use it. You'll learn effective & field tested weapons defence methods against 'hostage/mugger' situations as well as 'active attacker' situations.

Limb destruction using the Karambit
Why do we train in the use of defensive weapons? There are two reasons. Firstly, we are firm believers that to truly be proficient at defending against a weapon its a great advantage to understand how that weapon can be used. It's extremely 'un-pc' but we also train in defensive weapons as you never know when you may be travelling to, or living in a country where you can legally carry a defensive tool of some sort. Armed self defence beats unarmed self defence every time. If you look at some of the recent shootings in crowded buildings recently you can see a good argument for the armed citizen, or at least someone with the training to be able to fight back.

Using the bandanna as a defensive tool at a seminar in Livingstone
You will also learn to work with improvised defensive tools. We live in a country where only the thugs & criminals are armed, so sometimes when faced with a violent attack a defender may need to employ some form of 'force multiplier' to allow them to prevail. A good example would be the use of flexible weapons. Many countries have some form of flexible weapons system. Japan had the Manrikikusari, South East Asia uses the sarong, China the steel whip. Western instructors such as Master at Arms James Keating developed techniques using the bandanna. The humble pen or pencil can be used very effectively for short stick or modified knife techniques. We look at almost anything around you & teach you how to think outside the box & utilise it to save your life if needed.

Defensive pistol course UKTF HQ
We cover defensive pistolcraft & force on force training within our curriculum. Why cover this in a country where pistols are completely illegal, & firearms certificates very hard to get? The increase in shootings in England is a good reason! Fighting back is always better than doing nothing & dying! If you can disarm an attacker knowing how to use the weapon with some proficiency is a MASSIVE tactical advantage. In the USA one of the scenarios they are sweating is the possibility of a number of armed terrorists or criminals opening fire in a shopping mall or similar crowded place. Someone with the training to be able to effectively fight back, gain a weapon & then ruthlessly employ it could save countless lives. Unlikely? Nobody thought anyone would fly aircraft into the twin towers either did they? In the USA some ground breaking instructors such as Gabrial Suarez are addressing these scenarios in their training courses. In Tactical Edge we think its important too.

Tactical Edge was originally designed as a method of close combat for Special Forces. This meant it had to be possible to use it if you were totally knackered after carrying a huge load of kit over difficult ground for 50 miles, or when the soldier was malnourished & exhausted during escape & evesion. This means that it doesn't require strength & high fitness levels to be effective. Men or women can learn to be extremely effective using Tactical Edge. Tactical Edge isn't a 'one size fits all system', we teach you to find your own way & to empoy things that work for you. We're not a cult, there is no bowing or scraping or worshipping someone just because they have a fancier uniform- just the common respect that should exist between fellow students. We don't want to trun out more of the 'sheeple' found in traditional martial arts, we want you to think for yourself.
