Good defensive training is a vital investment today.
Tactical Edge is the Close Combat system created by Mark Davies. It was originally designed as a Close Quarter Combat system for Special Forces soldiers, & was specifically designed to work under the effects of adrenal stress. For the last decade it has been the Close Combat system used by one of the worlds most elite Special Forces units, who Mark is a Close Combat instructor with. Now Tactical Edge has an expanded civilian programme too, so anyone can benefit from cutting edge defensive training.
Tactical Edge is available at Mark Davies' class at his full time Martial Arts Centre in Arbroath, Scotland. Mark also offers private training & seminars in Tactical Edge & in Master at Arms James Keating's Combat Technologies system. Tactical Edge is also available in Edinburgh under Marks original & most senior Tactical Edge student, Marcus Houston. Marcus has experience of a wide range of Martial Arts, & is also a Krav Maga instructor. Marcus is the first person Mark has certified as an Instructor of Tactical Edge.

Mark Davies is the only true military Close Combat Instructor in the area, one of few in the UK. He is an internationally renowned self defence specialist who teaches seminars on his methods for instructors of all different styles of martial art. He has provided specialist instruction to Special Forces units from around the world as well as for his parent unit, including; Elements of the Royal Marines, US Naval Special Warfare (SEAL's), Elements of the US Marine Corps, US Naval Security Group, Specialist Intelligence Agency personnel.

Tactical Edge is unusual as it has been completely field tested in combat. It is the synthesis of 27 years of Martial Arts training in a wide range of martial arts, & 20 years applying that training working in Nightclub Security, VIP protection & with Special Forces units. Mark started training in Martial Arts back in 1980 in Karate, moving over to ITF TaeKwon-Do in 1983 under the man who is still his TaeKwon-Do instructor- former ITF world champion Master Gordon Wallace 7th Degree Blackbelt. Mark always believed in cross training, & was especially interested in weapons arts & combat oriented arts. Passing his Blackbelt in 1987 he left TaeKwon-Do for several years to travel & train seriously in some of the worlds more unusual & less known fighting arts under some of the worlds top teachers, developing a love for the South East Asian arts which he has practiced ever since. Mark has a real 'thing' about getting correct instruction, & hates it when he see's people getting fooled by instructors who gain 'instant' instructors credentials through DVD instructors courses (offered by some prominent instructors who should know better!). Mark now travels over to the USA regularly to train as a private student with his friend & teacher Master at Arms James A Keating, who is the worlds leading authority on edged weapons combat & the worlds most advanced fighting concepts. Master at Arms Keating has certified Mark as the UK's only Full Instructor in his Combat Technologies system & he is Master at Arms Keatings European Representative.

What makes Tactical Edge different is Mark Davies' experience applying his training in real life. With almost 2 decade experience working in nightclub security he has been involved in literally thousands of violent encounters. He understands exactly how the predators of society act & how violent attacks REALLY happen. His work in security, VIP protection & with Special Forces has allowed him to 'field test' the concepts, techniques & methods that make up Tactical Edge, & more importantly to be able to teach his students HOW the bad guys really work & how to defeat them. An example of this could be in knife defence; Mark spent several years working in one of the areas in the UK with the highest incidence of knife carrying & knife attacks. In the course of a nights duty you could have a knife pulled on you, or have to stop a knife attack on a customer several times. As a result Mark got to field test his knife defence methods against people who were REALLY trying to do him harm, people for whom attacking someone with a knife was a regular event! How many instructors teach knife defence that is just theory?

Tactical Edge has been enthusiattically received by martial artists of all styles. It is a 'conceptual' system, meaning that it is based on a series of concepts, rather than fixed set techniques that must be performed in a certain way. This means that martial artists from ANY style can excel in our system, & that people with no training can pick it up easily & quickly.

We have Tactical Edge classes in our Full time centre in Arbroath. We are available to perform our popular Tactical Edge seminars for martial arts groups of any style or affiliation, & we have specialist training services available for the corporate sector.
We hate to end this page with something negative, & we believe that all martial arts are excellent, & that all the fighting arts will work in combat so long as they have been properly trained in. Remember though, not all 'Close Combat Instructors' or 'Self Defence Specialists' are what they seem. We have two in the Angus are who are charlatans, who have gained most of their qualifications via a big cheque & a bunch of DVD's (one of them, who now calles himself a 'close combat instructor', in his one & only violent encounter ran away & locked himself in his house while his friend got beaten senseless!). If you were wanting to learn to fly, would you be happy learning from someone who's only experience came from a computer flight sim? We didn't think so... Well shouldn't that apply to something as serious as personal security & the safety of yourself & your loved ones from violent attack?
